Overview / Role Summary:

Our client is in the middle of a Workday financials implementation.

This role is for a hands-on specialist who can design the reporting layer on top of the Financial Data Model (FDM)—not just maintain reports. You’ll shape reporting architecture decisions, rebuild the reporting pack that matters at close, and leave behind standards the internal team can sustain.

Benefits / Value Proposition
  • Own the reporting “gap” between transaction processing and business decision-making
  • High-impact remit: reporting architecture, performance, usability, governance
  • Work directly with finance stakeholders to translate ambiguous asks into clear data requirements
  • Opportunity to influence the right split between native Workday reporting vs Prism Analytics
Key Responsibilities
  • Audit the current reporting estate: identify duplication, performance issues, low adoption, and data integrity risks
  • Define a reporting architecture (not just a backlog) covering:
    • what belongs in native Workday reporting
    • what should be built in Prism Analytics
    • what should be decommissioned
  • Rebuild the core management reporting pack for month-end performance and accuracy
  • Implement a robust reporting security model so the right users see the right numbers without manual workarounds
  • Enable finance self-service via Discovery Boards and Worksheets
  • Document patterns/standards so the internal team can extend confidently
Required Experience & Skills
  • Required: Hands-on build experience in Workday Financials reporting (not oversight-only)
  • Must: Advanced Report Writer capability including composite reports, matrix reports, calculated fields built to production standard
  • Mandatory: Strong command of the Workday Financial Data Model (FDM) including ledger accounts, account posting rules, worktags, book codes, journal sources—and the reporting impact of each
  • Required: Understanding of Workday financial data sources (including when/why summarised sources are required)
  • Must: Strong knowledge of report and domain security (security policies, BP security, and segmentation/IBS implications)
  • Necessary: Ability to partner with finance stakeholders—clarify requirements, translate to data needs, and challenge requests when they’re not fit for purpose
Desirables
  • You must have hands-on Workday Financials reporting build experience (not just running delivered reports / exporting to Excel)
  • You must have proven working knowledge of the Financial Data Model and how configuration choices affect reporting outcomes
